Voice Chat

Completely optional

Wyldmere supports proximity voice chat through Simple Voice Chat - you hear players near you talk, the same way you’d hear them in real life, and it fades out with distance. Nobody’s forced into it: if you don’t install anything, the server plays exactly like normal, text chat and all.

Getting set up

Voice chat needs a small mod on your own client - it’s not something that works through a vanilla launcher alone. The mod is called Simple Voice Chat, made by Max Henkel:

  1. Install a mod loader if you don’t already have one (Fabric is the simplest for a vanilla-feel setup).
  2. Download Simple Voice Chat for your Minecraft version from modrinth.com/plugin/simple-voice-chat.
  3. Drop it in your mods folder and launch through that profile.
  4. Connect to play.wyldmere.net as normal - the mod handles the rest automatically once you’re in.

No server-side setup needed on your end beyond that - it just works the moment you join with the mod installed.

How it works in-game

  • Normal range: you hear anyone within about 48 blocks, fading with distance.
  • Whisper: hold your whisper key to be heard only up close (~24 blocks).
  • Groups: form a private voice group with friends so you can hear each other clearly regardless of distance, on top of normal proximity chat with everyone else.

If you’d rather not

Totally fine - voice chat is opt-in on purpose. Nothing about playing Wyldmere requires it, and players without the mod are never kicked or restricted for not having it.
